As a geek for design I cant stop at architecture and graphic design, the world of textiles calls out for me too. The concept of two dimensional plans creating a three dimensional world doesnt just belong to architecture; it exists in art, photography, textiles and fashion. I am completely fascinated with the personal connection to construction and detail that sewing and industrial design brings. There have been a lot of errors on my self taught journey of sewing projects, but the following are a few of my favorite pieces.

Felt Rug Design & Construction
2007MATERIALS: 100% WOOL FELT & ORGANIC COTTEN THREADUndulations design is a reaction to wave of modern day sustainabilitys attachment to technology. It roots itself into the world of craft and ecology; from the antiquated process of felting to the simplicity of the running stitch. Each undulation is formed from the gathering of over thirty feet of felt sewn every inch for forty lines that occur every two inches. The project originally began as a light fixture, but after a few too many sparks it evolved into a 5’x7’ undulating rug.

Pret a Porter
2010Pret a Porter is a local fashion design competition using architectural interior products. Our manufacturer sponser was Masland Carpet, so we chose to create a complex looped skirt (all hand looped) from the yarn fibers of carpet. The underlining of the skirt is made from the plastic mat fiber found in carpet backing. Other than the thread to sew the skirt together, this entire outfit is made from components of carpet.

Wedding Dress Design
2008I was given the amazing oppurtunity to design and construct a friend's wedding dress and her bridesmaids dress. The dress is made from a unique sheer drapery fabric that has a delicate organic leaf pattern strategically placed on the straps and along the back down the train. The bridesmaid dresses were designed in a similar sweetheart neckline style but in complimenting wedding themed colors of brown and vibrant green.

Art
This is a small collection of art I have done throughout the years. The lime piece is watercolors, the stairs pencil, the woman (Bjork) and triangle are oil paintings, the hand is oil pastels and the back a live drawing charcoal piece. The following page is all freehand still life pencil drawings.

All of these pieces were taken with a manual 35mm film camera and personally developed, both film and prints, in a dark room at various schools I have attended.
